Two-Day Itinerary for Bristol: Slow Travel Guide
Bristol, a lively harbor city in England, offers a unique blend of history, culture, and art. Though it wasn’t on my original travel itinerary, it quickly became one of my favorite stops, thanks to glowing recommendations. Even with just two days, you can experience so much of what this charming city has to offer. Here’s a slow travel guide to Bristol with over 20 things to see and do, helping you make the most of your time while embracing a relaxed pace.
Before You Go: Accommodations & Travel Tips
Where to Stay:
I highly recommend The Berkeley Square Hotel. This boutique hotel combines charm and comfort with thoughtful details like fresh fruit, bottled water, and a splash of sherry in your room. The staff is exceptionally helpful, and its central location makes it a perfect base for exploring the city.
Getting There:
Bristol is well-connected by train, making it easy to reach from other parts of England or Wales. As a harbor city, traveling by boat is also an option if you’re coming from a coastal destination.
Day One: Food, Vintage Shops & Harborside Strolls
Morning:
Start by dropping off your luggage at your hotel and gearing up for a day of exploring. Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress in layers to prepare for Bristol’s sometimes windy and wet weather.
Lunch Stop:
Head to the Brandon Hill area and stroll down Park Street, known for its quirky vintage shops. Pop into any store that catches your eye for unique finds. For lunch, grab fish and chips at Catch 22, a cozy spot offering takeaway or casual seating. Their cod is outstanding, and they even have vegan fish and chips! On a sunny day, enjoy your meal picnic-style on the nearby College Green.
Afternoon:
Make your way to the Old City Centre and visit St Nicholas Market, which closes at 5 PM. This vibrant market is packed with local goods, crafts, and food stalls. If you’re in need of a pick-me-up, grab a refreshing drink at Big Juice Bar, known for its healthy and delicious options.
Evening:
End your day with a leisurely stroll along the harbor and beverage at Under the Stars, a cozy wine bar and kitchen located on a docked boat. Reservations are recommended as seating is limited, but you may get a seat upstairs if your party is small.
For another unique dining experience, have dinner at Nutmeg Street Kitchen. This aesthetically pleasing establishment brings the vibrant flavors, smells, and textures of India’s street food to Bristol. Here you can enjoy an array of traditional dishes, many which are vegetarian focused, created by a Michelin-trained chef.
Day two: Cozy Clifton & Banksy Street Art
Morning in Clifton:
Spend your morning in the picturesque Clifton neighborhood, home to the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge and stunning Georgian architecture. Stroll across the bridge for breathtaking views and soak in the history of this charming area.
For breakfast, visit Foliage Cafe, a plant-filled gem offering creative lattes like beetroot and classic menu staples. Their avocado toast is a must-try!
Midday:
Explore Clifton’s quaint charity shops for second-hand treasures before heading back to central Bristol.
Afternoon:
Immerse yourself in Bristol’s vibrant street art scene with a Banksy walking tour. Many believe Bristol may be the hometown of this world-famous artist, and you’ll find his work scattered across the city. Self-guided routes are available online, or you can book a guided tour for added insight.
Evening:
Wrap up your visit at The Raven Bristol. Bristol and Bath Rum Distillery, where you can enjoy creative rum-based cocktails in a stylish, laid-back setting. Their hidden upstairs booths are a fun surprise!
If you are looking for something even more unique, try Brozen for frozen cocktails or view the event calendar at The Raven.
